I love working with timber. I love the colours, patterns, textures and even the smells. In my early days as a carpenter I worked at Coastal Stairs where I learned how to build and install timber staircases. I often came home with my palms stained black from hardwood resin. That doesn’t happen as often now that I am a builder, but I still love every chance I get to use all kinds of timbers.
This year I enjoyed working on a project at Dombarton, NSW where the client wanted to create a new barbecue area and extend the living area to create a spacious indoor/outdoor entertaining area. On the project I worked with designer Charles Prior of Baxter Creative Pty Ltd to create the look the client wanted. We used some exciting products including sandstone, blackbutt flooring, aluminium bi-folds from Coastal Windows, and cedar windows from Woodhill Joinery but my favourite product had to be the cedar panelling (photographed here) that we used for the ceiling.
Perhaps you are working on a tighter budget and can’t afford a designer or cedar ceilings or windows but you have a love of timber.
