Kitchen Renovations

Milliken Builders has been working closely with many local kitchen companies for over 20 years to provide quality kitchen renovations for our clients.

Most kitchen renovations take a minimum of six weeks. We can manage your renovation by liaising with your chosen kitchen company, providing carpentry services and coordinating local tradesmen to ensure that there are minimal delays.

A basic kitchen renovation requires at least four trades ie. kitchen company, plumber, electrician and splash-back provider. A more complex renovation may also require carpenters, stone masons, plasterers, painters, tilers and/or other floor covering providers.

Modern kitchens tend to be incorporated into an open plan living area. Often walls need to be removed to accommodate this popular design trend. If the wall is load bearing it will likely require consultation with an engineer. As a building company we are committed to providing safe and durable structural solutions.

We sometimes encounter hidden problems when we begin demolition. Structural problems such as water or termite damage and asbestos are examples of what we may find. We have the skills and resources to rectify these problems and get your renovation back on track as quickly as possible.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take?

Most kitchen renovations take a minimum of six weeks but a more complex renovation may take longer.

What trades are required?

Four trades are required for a more basic kitchen renovation – kitchen company, plumber, electrician and splash-back provider. If your kitchen renovation involves structural changes you will need carpenters and possibly plasterers, painters, tilers and/or other floor covering providers.

What happens if there are hidden problems?

Hidden problems can be found when we start to demolish your existing kitchen and any walls that need to be removed. Examples of these might be structural problems, water damage, termite damage or asbestos. Milliken Builders has the skills and resources to quickly identify any issues, discuss options and any additional costs with you, and get your renovation back on track as quickly as possible.

Your house may look ‘OK’ and you may have been ‘safely’ living in it for a long time but there could be items that do not meet current Australian Standards. If any of these items are identified during demolition/construction, they must be replaced or upgraded to meet the current standard. These upgrades are usually not optional and must be funded by the homeowner. Examples of commonly required upgrades of this nature are tempering valves on old water heaters or electrical meter box upgrades.

Can I make changes after you have quoted, after we have signed contracts and after construction begins?

Yes, we are flexible and will try to accommodate changes. If the changes create additional work and/or material costs for us we will pass these on to you in the form of an ‘extra/variation’. Examples of extra/variations are unforeseen extra work required to complete the original work, a more expensive product than was quoted, changes to the plans provided or scope of work and additional work requested that was not in the original scope.

Bathroom, Ensuite & Laundry Renovations

Most bathroom renovations take a minimum of four weeks from demolition through to shower screen installation. We have streamlined our processes and have a team of tradesmen working to minimise unnecessary delays.

We work with clients to create wet rooms that are functional and stylish and match our clients’ taste. We encourage you to source your tiles, fittings and fixtures and have them on site when construction commences. This gives you a wide range of choice and the flexibility to source from one or multiple suppliers to meet your style and vision.
